Welcome to our 2010 Convention. I am grateful for your participation. I pray that we will come together to grow in grace, learn new truths, and build up the body of Christ by developing genuinely human relationships with one another.
We will meet October 22-24 at the Santa Fe Casino Hotel, 4949 N. Rancho Dr., Las Vegas, 89130. St. Thomas, Christ Church (Las Vegas), Grace in the Desert, St. Luke’s, St. Christopher’s, St. Matthew’s, Church of the Epiphany, and Todos Los Santos will be our hosts. Thanks to them for much hard work.
Please complete and return the enclosed registration form. Those staying at the Santa Fe can get a reduced rate if, when you book your room, you tell them you are attending the Convention. The reserved rooms are limited, so book early.
Dr. Sue Singer, Professor of Christian Education at CDSP, is our keynoter. The Convention theme is Formation For Christian Living. We will be discussing how Christian Formation Programs might help parishes and mission groups as well as individuals in their spiritual life. The highlight will be a Formation Fair on Saturday afternoon in which we can sample a buffet of formation programs and take home what fits for us.
Thursday Night, Oct. 21, (7 to 9 p.m.) Todos Los Santos will host our fellowship gathering featuring Hispanic food and a cordial atmosphere at All Saints Church, 4201 W. Washington St., Las Vegas, 89107. Register early while reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones.
We need nominees for all the elected diocesan office. A list of the openings is here along with a nomination form. Last year we had almost no nominees. Please prayerfully consider who would be a good servant in these positions, ask them for permission, and then send in the nomination form following the instructions on the form.
To save money and trees, we are mailing only one hard copy of the Convention Journal to each parish. You can view the Journal by clicking here.
In addition to the convention business, there will be discussions of how Christian Formation programs can help our special mission groups. So we need members of those groups to attend the Saturday afternoon meetings of Special Mission Groups. The groups we have identified so far are:
Stewardship & Fundraising Team Evangelism Team Desert Angels
Ministry Development Commission Treasurers Parish Communicators
Episcopal Recovery Ministries Green Team Standing Committee
Parish Educators Faith and Visual Arts Wardens
Commission on Ordination & Licensing Campus & Young Adult Ministries ECW
Parish educators (including Sunday School teachers or people who want to teach) are the most important group to include. So please get the word to these folks, they are welcome and warmly invited to the Saturday afternoon sessions. The Formation Fair on Saturday afternoon (tentatively 3:30 to 5:15) would benefit anyone interested in Christian Formation. Please invite them.
